Media Relations Manager Position

Reporting to the Marketing Director, the Media Relations Manager is responsible for overseeing communications to the media, including preparing articles, press kits, press releases and other content initiatives. The Manager cultivates and manages relationships with media representatives across relevant industries, oversees NSCA’s trade show management and is responsible for NSCA’s advertising efforts (internal/external), including revenue expectations.

Specific Responsibilities:


  • Prepares articles and press releases for the media.
  • Ensures the Association protects and promotes its image in a proper, coordinated and consistent manner.
  • Cultivates and enhances collaborative working relationships within the press and publicity community.
  • Manages the flow of news about the Association to the media.
  • Gathers and disseminates timely information to press and NSCA staff.
  • Designs effective processes to enhance the accuracy of communication.
  • Coordinates group of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to speak on behalf of Association.
  • Plans and oversees press events.
  • Detects public relations issues as they emerge and manages efforts to address them directly.
  • Develops and distributes press kits.
  • Manages NSCA’s trade show efforts, including schedule, budget allocation, logistics and staffing.
  • Manages NSCA’s external advertising efforts to contract print/digital paid advertising with various publications and associations based on editorial calendar, NSCA scheduled initiatives and budget.
  • Works with Marketing Project Coordinator to ensure advertising assets are developed, scheduled and disseminated correctly and on time.
  • Builds relationships with paid advertising channel contacts to gain earned media editorial opportunities.
  • Coordinates the sale of NSCA advertising placements, manages fulfillment, and meets revenue expectations.



The successful candidate will exhibit strong communication and organizational skills, exhibiting a balance between big-picture and process-oriented thinking. The Media Relations Manager will need to be adaptable, possess a sense of urgency and work collaboratively across multiple departments.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • 5+ years of marketing experience to include media relations management.
  • Strong writing background essential.
  • Experience with advertising placement very helpful.
  • Experience in the health/fitness/sports industries a plus.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software.
