President, Joseph P. Weir, PhD

Dr. Weir is professor/research coordinator for the Program in Physical Therapy, Des Moines University-Osteopathic Medical Center. He was a 2000 recipient of the NSCA Outstanding Junior Investigator Award and the 2006 recipient of the William J. Kraemer Outstanding Sports Scientist Award. Joe received his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Eastern Washington University and a doctorate in Exercise Physiology from the University of Nebraska. His primary research interests concern the responses of the neuromuscular system and autonomic nervous system to exercise.

Vice President, Larry W. Weiss, EdD, CSCS,*D, FNSCA

Dr. Weiss has been a member of NSCA since 1980. He received his doctorate in 1979 from the University of Georgia. He was a faculty member at Georgia Southern College (University) for seven years and has been at the University of Memphis for 21 years. He founded and directs the Human Performance Laboratories as well as the Musculoskeletal Dynamics Laboratory at the UM, where he is also the academic coordinator for the Exercise and Sport Science area. His research endeavors have ranged from identifying acute anabolic hormone responses to weight training activities, to developing ultrasonic protocols for monitoring localized skeletal muscle and fat adaptations, to establishing the viability of selected variables derived from various isoinertial and isokinetic testing protocols, to identifying predictors of vertical jumping performance. Dr. Weiss has served as an associate editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and as a member of the NSCA Research Committee for many years.

Mr. Juan Carlos Santana is the Director of the Institute of Human Performance in Boca Raton, Florida. His vast experiences in volunteer positions for the NSCA (Florida State Director, member of the Conference Committee, and Chair of the Sport-Specific Conference Committee) have provided him with an insight into the NSCA that few can claim. Mr. Santana is one of the most dynamic and respected presenters in the industry.
NSCA Board of Directors passes Foundation motion
The Board of Directors has directed the Executive Director to place $500,000 into the NSCA Foundation.
This continues the previous action of the Board of Directors to increase resources of the NSCF. By placing these funds in the Foundation, we will continue to increase the resources of the Foundation so that it will be better able to support scholarships and grants.
