Functional Movement Screens: Defining the Problem Gray Cook, CSCS

Movement Screen (FMS) can help individuals and groups in many different ways. This simple screening tool provides the most fundamental and primary information needed when working with active and athletic populations. By performing the FMS you can quickly ascertain potential risk when an individual’s movement patterns are limited or altered. This system helps to identify those who may be at risk for injury as well as consider movement patterns to develop programs to improve performance.

Gray Cook, CSCS, has lectured nationally and internationally in the fields of physical therapy, sports medicine and performance enhancement. He has served as a consultant to numerous universities and professional sports teams in all four major sports. Gray’s consulting is not limited to rehabilitation and sports medicine, he is equally sought after for his advice on conditioning and performance enhancement.

Using the Functional Movement Screen in Team Sports Michael Boyle

Please note: this session is a follow up to the previous session with Gray Cook. Do not register for only this session. Session will describe how to use the data obtained in the Functional Movement Screen to drive program design in team sports. Specific examples will be given of program adaptations made through generalizing data from a large group. You will learn to prepare a training plan that focuses on the needs of specific groups of athletes versus specific individuals. Often coaches feel assessment or screening is a waste of time as individual programs are unrealistic. This session will deal in sport specific generalities that will help to improve training and reduce injury.

Michael Boyle, is one of the foremost experts in the fields of Strength and Conditioning, Functional Training and general fitness. He currently spends his time lecturing, teaching, training and writing. Prior to founding Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, he served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Boston University for 15 years. Presently Boyle continues to serve as an assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Boston University, primarily responsible for ice hockey. Michael has been a featured speaker at numerous strength and conditioning and athletic training clinics across the country and has produced nine instructional videos in the area of strength and conditioning.
