Stretching: A Multi-Dimensional and Multi-Disciplinary Approach Charlie Hoolihan, CSCS*D

Stretching and flexibility techniques have evolved significantly over the past thousands of years from Yoga to Myofacial Release to Active-Isolated and Dynamic Integrated Stretching. Additionally, flexibility research over the last 20 years has provided conclusions that pronounce stretching as either beneficial, non-essential or harmful. In order to design a beneficial stretching program, one must consider the complete movement patterns the routine is designed to improve. Muscle and fascia systems, neuromuscular sequencing and flexibility training duration play a significant role in effective stretching routines and a variety of techniques are required to enhance each of these components. This session examines the research and draws from several disciplines to provide stretching and flexibility techniques designed to improve performance and healthy range of motion and limit injuries during activity. It will be a proactive class designed to put participants through at least 45 minutes of active flexibility enhancing techniques in addition to providing the background for the program.
