Dr. Declan Connolly is a Professor and Exercise Physiologist at the University of Vermont where he is also Director of the Human Performance Laboratory. Dr. Connolly is a nationally and internationally recognized exercise physiologist having published over 350 articles in his interest area of sports performance, muscle adaptation and injury with training. He has published one book ‘Heart Rate Training’. He is a past President of the New England American College of Sports Medicine. He consults to numerous sports organizations including the National Hockey League, the National Football League, US Rowing, US Skiing and has served as a consultant to the international Olympic Committee on several occasions. Year-round Strength & Conditioning Considerations for Basketball Athletes - Presented by Andrea Hudy

Andrea Hudy joined the Kansas staff as the associate director of strength and conditioning in September 2004. She was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Sport Performance in July 2008. Since her arrival Hudy has handled the strength and conditioning responsibilities for the KU men's basketball team.

Hudy also oversees the Anderson Strength and Conditioning Complex for all KU sports.

Hudy came to Kansas after nine and a half years at the University of Connecticut, where she worked closely with the Huskies' national champion men's and women's basketball teams. In all, Hudy was part of eight national championship teams while at Connecticut - two men's basketball; five women's basketball; and one men's soccer.

Including the eight Jayhawks that have been drafted in the NBA, she has worked with 28 former student-athletes who went on to play in the NBA.

A native of Huntingdon, Pa., Hudy was a four-year letter winner in volleyball at Maryland where she graduated in 1994. Her freshman season at Maryland, she was a member of the 1990 Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball championship team.

Hudy earned her bachelor of science degree in kinesiology at Maryland and her masters of art and sport biomechanics degree from Connecticut. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a USAW Level I Coach. Additionally, Hudy has her national massage certification.

Pete Bommarito, MS, CSCS, USAW, MAT Jumpstart Trained Practitioner, is the owner and president of Bommarito Performance Systems. He is regarded as one of the top coaches in the industry for his innovative, scientifically based approach to sport specific training. He has brought his nationally recognized expertise to the team of Bommarito Performance Systems, where he is directly responsible for developing all protocols and implementing all programming. Shannon Turley enters his fifth season as the sports performance coordinator for the Stanford Football program in 2011. Since arriving on “The Farm” in January of 2007, Turley has created a comprehensive player development program designed to achieve three primary goals: injury prevention, athletic performance enhancement and mental discipline development. His role is to direct the performance enhancement training, sports nutrition education and sports psychology programming to ensure the physical and mental preparation of the entire 105 player roster. In addition, Turley is responsible for collaborating with the sports medicine staff to develop an individualized, sport and position specific, active integration rehabilitation plan to ensure the successful return to competition of all injured players. Turley is supported by a staff of four full time assistants that contribute to the mission of preparing the Cardinal for the rigorous demands of pursuing championship performance in the Pacific 12 Conference and Bowl Championship Series.

Turley previously served the University of San Diego as Director of Athletic Performance for the Torero’s 16 sport programs for one season during the 2006 campaign. Turley served the University of Missouri (2001-05) for the five previous years, the first two as a graduate assistant while earning his Master’s degree in Education and Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Sports Psychology, then the final three as assistant director of strength and conditioning. During his tenure at Mizzou, he assisted with the player development program for the football team as well as directing the training of the women’s volleyball and wrestling programs. In addition to his coaching duties, Turley directed the annual Mizzou Athletic Performance Development Clinic. Turley also developed and directed a comprehensive sports nutrition program for 20 varsity teams that included negotiating sponsorships with Kraft Foods and Gatorade, while managing the department’s budget for the purchase of nutritional supplements.

Prior to his stint with the Tigers, Turley served the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club during the 2001 season where he was directly responsible for the strength and conditioning development of the AA affiliate Wichita Wranglers.

Turley earned his Bachelor’s degree in the Science of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise in addition to a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 2000. While with the Hokies, Turley served as President of the Exercise Science Student Organization and began his career in strength and conditioning as a student assistant coach following his track and field career.

Turley is a certified member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as a certified sports nutritionist with the International Society of Sports Nutrition.

Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach: University of Connecticut

Coach Kimball handles all aspects of strength and conditioning for the University of Connecticut Women's Basketball team who in 2010, set an NCAA record with 90 straight wins. Amanda has been an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Connecticut since July 2004. In addition to women's basketball, Coach Kimball oversees all aspects of the strength and conditioning programs for field hockey, softball, and volleyball. Coach Kimball received her Master's degree in applied exercise science with a concentration in strength and conditioning from Springfield College.

Dr. Signorile is a Professor of Exercise Physiology at the University of Miami and a Research Specialist at the Miami VA Medical Center Geriatrics Research Center. He have been involved in research using exercise to address independence and fall prevention for over 20 years, has over 50 refereed manuscripts and 175 national and international scientific and 200 industry presentations. He have been a pioneer in applying the diagnosis/prescription model for tailored exercise to improve function and reduce falls in older persons and has worked to apply new technologies for improving independence. Within the context of prescriptive exercise Dr Sig, as he is often called, has organized and led a series of studies that produced novel tools to assess functionality including: the gallon jug shelf test, the ramp power test, the trunk rotation test, and equations to compute power from a simple stand-up test. He has chaired over 20 doctoral dissertations and served as a committee member on countless more. Dr. Signorile is the coauthor of SouthBeach Diet Supercharged and has recently released his definitive book on aging exercise prescription entitled Bending the Aging Curve published by Human Kinetics Publishers on which this webinar is based.
