National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Announces Newly Elected Board Members

Colin Wilborn and Bret Contreras are elected to the NSCA Board of Directors. Joining the Nomination Committee are Shawn Arent and Jenevieve Roper.

Colorado Springs, CO – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announces the results of the 2018 Board of Directors elections, as voted on by NSCA members. Joining the Board are Colin Wilborn, PhD, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT,*D, FNSCA and Bret Contreras, PhD, CSCS,*D.

In addition, the NSCA welcomes two newly elected members to the Nomination Committee. Joining the committee are Shawn Arent, PhD, CSCS,*D, FACSM, FISSN and Jenevieve Roper, PhD, CSCS.

Dr. Wilborn is currently Executive Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Professor of Physical Therapy at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He has published over 200 peer reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters on the effects of sport supplements and exercise on body composition, metabolism, and performance. Colin has a published book on Sport Nutrition and has written for magazines such as Men’s Fitness and Muscle and Fitness. He was the recipient of the NSCA’s 2015 GNC Nutritional Research Award, the highest honor for a sport nutrition researcher in the field. Colin is a Fellow and served on the Board of Directors for the National Strength and Conditioning Association as the Vice President and Treasurer. He is a Fellow and former Vice President of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the International Society of Sport Nutrition, a Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, and editorial board member or reviewer for 10 journals. Colin’s professional and personal interests are the effects of resistance training and sport nutrition on health, body composition, and performance. .

Dr. Contreras has a PhD in Sports Science from Auckland University of Technology and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He invented and patented the Hip Thruster, founded Glute Lab - a San Diego based gym, authored Bodyweight Strength Training Anatomy, and co-authored Strong Curves: A Woman’s Guide to Building a Better Butt and Body. Bret’s primary research interests involve the gluteus maximus, resistance-training biomechanics, and the functional transfer of resisted-exercise to performance.

Dr. Arent is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology & Health at Rutgers University. He is the Director of the Rutgers Center for Health & Human Performance and Director of the Graduate Program in Kinesiology & Applied Physiology. His research focuses on the relationship between physical activity and stress and the implications for health, performance, and recovery. Shawn was named the 2017 William J. Kraemer Outstanding Sport Scientist of the Year by NSCA. He is a Fellow in ACSM and ISSN and is the current President of ISSN. Additionally, he has worked with teams in the NHL, MLB, the US Soccer Federation, and a number of teams at Rutgers.

Dr. Roper is an assistant professor of health and human sciences at Loyola Marymount University. She has a PhD in Physical Education, Sports and Exercise Science from the University of New Mexico and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Jen’s research specializes in biomechanics and running gait retraining for individuals with chronic knee pain.
