    The NSCA Education Recognition Program (ERP) recognizes and distinguishes both 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities with standardized, approved personal training curricula designed to prepare students for the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) certification.

    Help Students Reach Higher with a Career in Personal Training

    Both 2-year and 4-year colleges/universities are eligible to submit their curricula for recognition consideration. The program does not have to be classified as a major, minor, sequence or concentration. However, it does have to be a formalized area of study (a full list of required content areas can be found in the Personal Training Program application).

    What are the program details?

    • The ERP provides recognition from the NSCA that the institution meets the minimum requirements within the specified curriculum, which is valid for three years.
    • There is a onetime administrative fee of $500 for the first three-year period of recognition.
    • Schools that have not allowed their recognition to expire, are eligible for ERP renewal by submission of the renewal ERP application for a recently reduced renewal fee of $400.
    • Schools that have not renewed their recognition and allowed their recognition to lapse may resubmit a complete application for the initial fee of $500.
    • Schools obtaining recognition for multiple programs will receive 5% off of the fee for each additional recognition approved.

    What are the recognition requirements?

    • The college/university applying for recognition must be regionally accredited within the U.S. (or international equivalent).
    • The college/university must have a personal training educational program that is part of a curriculum in a 2-year or 4-year program.
    • Schools must have a CSCS or NSCA-CPT who is a full-time employee involved in the teaching of the educational program as a member of the teaching faculty.

    How do I apply?

    • Download and complete the form-fillable PDF Personal Training application.
    • Send one hard copy of the application with original signatures, along with additional required materials, such as syllabi.
    • The administrative fee is due with each application.
    • Applications are reviewed two times per year. Application postmark deadlines are April 1 and October 1 each year.
    • Applicants will be notified of approval/non-approval by May 15 or November 15 each year.
