Mark Abel is an Associate Professor and Director of the Exercise Physiology Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky. Abel conducts research to improve the safety, health, fitness, and performance of firefighters and law enforcement officers. He has been employed as a firefighter and participated in the Firefighter Combat Challenge. He serves as a committee member on the Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator® (TSAC-F®) Certification Exam Development Committee and the TSAC Special Interest Group (SIG). Abel also owns Tactical Fitness Institute, LLC which serves to assist fire departments and law enforcement agencies to develop legally defensible physical ability tests and offers other services to meet their health and performance goals. Finally, Abel serves as a consultant for the First Twenty, a nonprofit organization focused on improving firefighter health and wellness through empirically-based interventions.
