National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation Announces New Grants and Scholarship

Colorado Springs, CO – As it celebrates its 10th anniversary, the National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation (NSCAF) is proud to announce several new grants and scholarship that will be available to NSCA members for the 2017-2018 grant and scholarship cycles. New grants include the Eleiko Equipment Grant and the NSCAF & USAW Coaching Advancement Grant, and the new scholarship is the Natasha Porter Memorial Scholarship. All NSCAF grants and scholarships are awarded to NSCA members who are judged to be the most qualified applicant by the NSCAF Review Committees. Information on the new opportunities are detailed below and can also be found at www.nsca.com/foundation. Members of the NSCA & NSCAF Board of Directors, Grant and Scholarship Review Committees, NSCA and NSCAF employees, and their families are not eligible to receive grants or scholarships.

Eleiko Equipment Grant 

The Eleiko Equipment Grant was established to assist recently established inner city schools with weightlifting clubs access to the best equipment in the world. Eleiko Sport USA, the leading provider of professional equipment for strength and conditioning, weightlifting, powerlifting and professional fitness, will provide (1) $15,000 equipment grant of strength and conditioning equipment at wholesale pricing to the selected applicant.

 - All applicants must be NSCA Members at the application deadline (on or before March 15, 2018)

Coaching Advancement Grant 

The Coaching Advancement Grant will be available to current NSCA Members who are NOT yet certified by the NSCA in any form and those who are also currently USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coaches looking to advance their education.

The grant will cover the recipient to take their CSCS, CSPS, CPT or TSAC-F (1 certification only), and a USA Weightlifting Level 2 Course.

 - Program Funding Sources/Financials 

Requirements

 - All applicants must be NSCA Members at the application deadline (on or before March 15, 2018) 
 - Current USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach (in good standing) at the application deadline (on or before March 15, 2018) 

Natasha Porter Memorial Scholarship 

Natasha Porter was an employee of the NSCA who passed away in October of 2016 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Natasha was the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, and was also responsible for the management of all the NSCA awards. Through her instillation of responsibility and strong work ethic, she inspired those around her.

This scholarship is designed for the specific purpose of providing financial assistance to Education Recognition Program (ERP) School students to attend their first National Conference to network and engage with professionals in the industry. The scholarship has been established to honor Natasha’s legacy and impact on the NSCA.

Scholarships will provide the cost of the conference admission, travel, daily meal stipend and boarding accommodations.

Items judged by the NSCAF Review Committee in each application include:

 - Courses Completed
 - Overall academic achievement
 - Strength & Conditioning Experience
 - NSCA Involvement
 - Honors and awards
 - Community Involvement
 - Essay that is based on clarity, expression, goals, lucidity, grammar, and articulateness
 - Letters of Recommendation 

Requirements

 - All scholarship applicants must be NSCA Members at the application deadline, and have not yet attended any NSCA Conference in any capacity, and are a current student of an ERP school that is in good standing with the NSCA.  
 - Current ERP Student in good standing 
 - 3.0+ GPA 
 - Undergraduate Student 

Application Dates

August 1, 2018-October 15, 2018

“The addition of these new grants and scholarship shows how the Foundation is recognizing the needs of the NSCA membership,” said NSCA Foundation Director Carissa Gump. “The Foundation’s mission is to support the members of the NSCA, and we are doing exactly that through these funding opportunities by providing conference attendance funding, weightlifting equipment for middle/high school programs, and helping our coaches continue to advance their profession.”

The National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation (NSCAF) was founded in 2007 with the aim of supporting the advancement of strength and conditioning practical applications. The NSCA Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to providing funding to NSCA members taking part in educational and research endeavors.

Since its establishment, the NSCA Foundation has awarded over 100 grants and over 400 scholarships, totaling over $2 million to outstanding individuals within the strength and conditioning community. The NSCA Foundation is one of the few foundations that fund work at the Master’s level and across all levels up to senior investigators, as well as one of the few sources that funds work in the strength and conditioning fields. A major goal of the foundation is to continue to maximize assets in order to increase grants and scholarships for NSCA members.
