NSCA’s Northeast Region

NSCA has a network of volunteer leaders who direct NSCA’s efforts at the state and provincial level. NSCA’s Northeast Regional Coordinator provides oversight and training to local state and provincial directors. Members in the Northeast Region can connect at local and regional events as well as on Facebook to others in this area.

Regional Coordinator: Heath R. Pierce, MEd, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT,*D, RSCC*D

Heath Pierce has over 20 years of experience in the strength and conditioning field, and has worked with a wide variety of athletes from youth to professional. He has been employed at the University of New England since 1997. From 1997 to 2006, Pierce was a Senior Fitness Specialist/Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning. And in 2006, he was named the Associate Clinical Professor/Director, Applied Exercise Science Program in the Department of Exercise and Sport Performance, apposition he still currently holds. Pierce has been recognized for his dedication and commitment to the field by serving as the Maine State Director of the NSCA from 2007 – 2013, Northeast Regional Coordinator from 2015 – present, and receiving the NSCA 2009 State Director of the Year Award, as well as the 2014 Personal Trainer of the Year Award.   

Connecticut

Joel DeMarco has been an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of Connecticut for 5 years where he oversees training programs for Baseball, Women’s Ice Hockey and Women’s Volleyball. Prior to UConn, he served as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Trinity College for all 29 sports. His interests include training for strength and power sports, developing young professionals in the field, and team/leadership building.

Kristen Ouellette is an Assistant Professor of Applied Exercise Science at Springfield College and contracts for Renaissance Periodization. Her interests include; strength and conditioning for team sport and tactical athletes, performance nutrition, and applied research.

Maine

Lyndie Kelley is the Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning at the University of New England (UNE) in Biddeford, ME. She is responsible for working with all 17 varsity athletics programs at UNE and serves as a Laboratory Instructor for the Department of Exercise and Sport Performance. Her interests are in mentoring/developing young professionals and the balance between the art and science of coaching. She is particularly passionate about increasing the performance resources available to NCAA DIII student-athletes.

New Hampshire

Ryan Knight is a Licensed Physical Therapist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Knight is a partner in the Pinnacle Rehabilitation Network providing patient care at Londonderry Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in Londonderry, NH. He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of New England (UNE) in Portland, ME in 2013 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Exercise Science also from UNE in 2010.

New York

Christopher Torres is an Assistant Professor and Lab Manager of the Exercise Science Program at SUNY Potsdam. A graduate of the Ohio State University, Dr. Torres has experience working with Division III, Division II, and Division I athletics, and looks forward to bringing strength and conditioning to athletes and tactical operators in North Country and the rest of New York.

Rhode Island

Rick Armstrong is the Internship Director and Lecturer in the Kinesiology Department at the University of Rhode Island (URI) in Kingston, RI. He has over 10 years of experience training individuals, including Division I athletics, health and wellness, and law enforcement. His interests include strength and conditioning, biomechanics, and youth physical activity.

Vermont

Justin Smith is currently in his 12th year as a member of the strength and conditioning coaching staff at the University of Vermont (UVM). He was named Co-Director of the Athletic Performance program at UVM in July 2014. He oversees the strength and conditioning programs for the field hockey, men's and women's alpine and Nordic skiing, men's hockey, and men's and women's track and field programs.

Patrick Béland is a professional member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association and a coach with an impressive downhill ski racing background. His passion in helping others reach their goals and recognizing their true potential ultimately led him to an undergraduate degree in kinesiology at the University of Trois-Rivières, followed by a Master's degree, specializing in Intervention and Consultation in Sport Psychology from the University of Ottawa. Béland strives to complete the circle of training by merging the important components of strength training with mental preparedness.

Patrick est originaire de la région de Québec, il a travaillé quelques années en Alberta et Ontario où il a développé ces compétences professionnelles et développé un réseau de collègue à travers le Canada. Patrick est Préparateur Physique certifié par la NSCA (Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach – CSCS) et Consultant en Performance Mentale avec l'Association Canadienne de Psychologie du Sport. Il a aussi une grande expérience en tant qu'entraîneur en ski alpin. Sa passion pour aider les autres à atteindre leurs objectifs et à les aider à réaliser leur plein potentiel l'as amené à compléter un Baccalauréat en Kinésiologie à l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, suivi d'une Maîtrise spécialisée en Intervention en Psychologie du Sport à l'Université d'Ottawa. Son objectif est de faire le lien entre les volets Physiques et Psychologiques de la performance humaine afin d'aider les gens à réaliser leur projet.
