Performance Center Staff

Located at the NSCA Headquarters in Colorado Springs, the NSCA Performance Team is comprised of Registered Strength and Conditioning Coaches (RSCC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS), NSCA-Certified Personal Trainers (NSCA-CPT), and Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitators (TSAC-F) dedicated to helping you achieve your goals.

Performance Center Coaching Staff

Scott Caulfield, CSCS,*D, RSCC*D, Coaching Education Manager/Head Strength Coach

Scott Caulfield is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and training of all athletes, interns, and coaches at the NSCA’s 6,000-square-foot Performance Center at the NSCA National Headquarters. Caulfield works diligently to promote the NSCA and its coaches, including work with the Professional Baseball Coaches Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society (PBSCCS), the National Basketball Strength & Conditioning Association (NBSCA), as well as national governing bodies such as the U.S. Anti-Doping Association, United States Olympic Committee, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, and U.S.A. Hockey. He has been an NSCA state director (Vermont), Strategic Planning Committee member, and a certified member of the NSCA since 2003. Prior to joining the NSCA HQ staff he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Dartmouth College for football, men’s and women’s swimming, and rugby. Most recently, he spent 4 years as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Colorado College Hockey in addition to his duties at NSCA Headquarters. He earned an undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Castleton University (Vermont), and a Master of Arts degree in Sport Coaching from the University of Denver.

Rachel Roberts, MS, CSCS*D, TSAC-F, USAW, Coaching Development and Performance Center Coordinator

Rachel received her Bachelors in Wellness Science/Kinesiology and Masters of Strength and Conditioning Studies from Arkansas Tech University. Her strength and conditioning field experience includes interning at Accelerate Performance Enhancement Center in Tyler, Texas, Arkansas Tech University, National Strength and Conditioning Association, and US Ski and Snowboard Association. As the assistant strength and conditioning coach, Rachel’s responsibilities include program design and implementation of teams and solo athletes and development and training of NSCA interns.

Nick Clayton, MBA, MS, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT, RSCC, USAW, Personal Training Program Manager

Nick Clayton most recently served as Director of Performance at TMI Sports Medicine where he developed a sports performance program for youth through professional athletes. While there, he trained a number of major league baseball players and focused on performance enhancement and prehab training. Prior to working at TMI, Clayton was the Assistant Director for Recreational Sports at the University of Florida. He earned his undergraduate degree from Rowan University, and his MS in Exercise Science and MBA from the University of Florida.

Nate Palin, CSCS, MSCSCS, TSAC Program Manager

Nate Palin served as a leader in the 2nd Ranger Battalion for seven years prior to his transition to strength and conditioning. Over the course of five combat deployments in support of Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, Nate experienced the military’s performance shortcomings and observed the need for enhanced physical training to better support mission critical tasks. He began his coaching career in 2010, narrowed his focus to tactical strength and conditioning as a Performance Specialist for EXOS in Washington, D.C. in 2012, and coached Special Operations Forces at Joint Base Lewis-McChord from 2015 to 2018. Nate currently works for the National Strength and Conditioning Association as its Tactical Strength and Conditioning Program Manager.

Matt Thompson, CSCS, TSAC-F, Business Development Coordinator

Matt Thompson assists with the development of educational and membership content for the Personal Training and Tactical Strength and Conditioning (TSAC) programs, and assists in coaching many of the tactical athletes who train at the NSCA Performance Center. Matt has coached NCAA Division I athletes, elite tactical operators, high school and youth athletes, and has worked as a personal trainer for a number of clients with diverse needs and backgrounds. Matt earned his undergraduate degree in Health and Exercise Science from Colorado State University where he interned with both the strength and conditioning department and the Human Performance and Clinical Research Lab.
