NSCA Executive Team

The National Strength and Conditioning Association is led by an executive team with backgrounds and expertise both within strength and conditioning and in other professional communities.

Executive Director, Michael Massik

Michael Massik joins the NSCA after serving as CEO for USA Weightlifting (USAW). During his tenure at USAW, the organization saw tremendous growth in membership with an increase of more than 12,000 members. Before his time at USAW, Michael ran his own sports consulting company, Massik-Burton LLC, for four years and prior to that served as Executive Director of USA Fencing for 12 years, from 1996-2008. As a strategic planner and thinker, Michael is dedicated to and focused on increasing value to members in the development and implementation of association projects and services. Michael earned both his Master’s in Toxicology and Bachelor’s in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Kentucky.

Sr. Director of Finance and Administrative Services, Lee Madden

After receiving an accounting degree from Western Michigan University, Lee Madden spent several years in public accounting and management at McDonald’s Corporation in the Chicago area. Upon moving to Colorado Springs in 1995, she joined the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation and began an accounting service for sports nonprofits in the Colorado Springs area including many national governing bodies as clients.

Sr. Director of Membership and Program Development, Scott Douglas

Scott Douglas is responsible for delivering the strategy and the implementation of NSCA’s membership efforts as well as to provide leadership for the organization’s national and international growth initiatives. For more than 15 years, Scott’s career has focused on integrated marketing across a wide spectrum of industries. As Marketing Director with Motum, Scott developed competitive analyses and brand positioning strategies for industry-leading companies including SAP, AlixPartners and OKI Data. Scott also co-founded an advertising agency, delivering creative media solutions to universities, financial institutions and nonprofits. Scott holds an MBA from the University of Colorado and continues the learning process as an adjunct college instructor in management and marketing.

Conferences/Events Director, Virginia Meier

Virginia is responsible for the overall logistics of NSCA’s conferences, symposia and regional events. This includes overseeing all educational seminars and annual programs. Virginia and staff design and deliver more than a dozen conferences and symposia for NSCA members, certified professionals, and supporters each year. Virginia brought more than 20 years of conference, event and hospitality experience to the NSCA. In addition to participating as a guest panelist for several specialty conferences, webcasts and training events, Virginia’s experience includes working for the American Numismatic Association and the Broadmoor resort. Virginia is actively involved in Meeting Professionals International and American Society of Association Executives.

Education/Publications Director, Keith E. Cinea, MA, CSCS,*D, NSCA-CPT,*D

Keith E. Cinea, has served the NSCA in various communications and educational positions since 1999. Before coming to the NSCA, he was the Strength Training Coordinator for the Central Denver YMCA, and worked as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Front Range Community College in Westminster, Colorado. Keith earned his BA and MA in exercise physiology from the University of Northern Colorado and holds a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Sponsorship Director, Mary-Clare Brennan

Mary-Clare Brennan is responsible for directing all aspects of the NSCA’s corporate sponsorship programs, with the objective of creating authentic partnerships with corporations interested in helping to further the NSCA’s mission and reach. Mary-Clare joins the NSCA after more than twenty years of progressive responsibility and leadership experience in the academic and non-profit sports industries, including two years as a professional athletic trainer and nearly eighteen years of high-level marketing, sales and business development experience with the United States Olympic Committee. Her experience includes management of sponsorship and marketing programs in connection with two Division I collegiate athletic programs, two National Governing Bodies of sport, nine United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams and two U.S.-based Olympic Games. Mary-Clare holds a BS in sport science and athletic training from Indiana University and an MEd in sports administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Director of Operations, Becky Milot-Bradford

Becky has 24 years of experience as an association executive and has helped grow a number of national and international associations during that time in roles ranging from Association Development Director to Communications Director, Director of Membership Development and Marketing, and Webmaster. Becky has a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology. Prior to beginning her work in associations, she worked for USA Swimming and USA Cycling.

Director of Technology, Alonso Montiel

Alonso Montiel is leading the delivery of the NSCA’s technology innovations, strategy, projects, digital transformation, operations, infrastructure, development, security, governance, change management, and overall best practices in alignment with the vision, mission and objectives of the organization. Alonso has successfully served in diverse IT executive positions that include Software Development, Engineering, Architecture, Operations, Security, Solutions and Technologies in general in numerous global companies and industries. Alonso has a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Systems from the Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico.

Certification Director, Jonathan Sagapolutele

Jonathan is responsible for the leadership and administrative direction for all certification programs. He oversees the implementation of certification program policies and procedures with the goal of increasing and maintaining certifications. Jonathan has served the NSCA in multiple roles within Membership and Certification over the last 15 years.
