NSCA Foundation Scholarships

The purpose of the National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation (NSCAF) is to support the mission of the National Strength and Conditioning Association by providing funding for educational and research activities that enhance the practical application of strength and conditioning. All general and specific guidelines for each respective scholarship are outlined below and should be closely read by the applicant to ensure all guidelines have been met prior to submission.

General Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Scholarship applications will be accepted from August 1 - October 15 annually
(The application will be available starting August 1st)

Apply

All scholarship applicants must be NSCA Members at the application deadline (on or before October 15) and must be pursuing careers in strength and conditioning. Applicants are not eligible to win more than one scholarship in any given year; however, applications can be made in more than one scholarship category in a given year. Applicants are eligible to receive up to two scholarships from each category for which they qualify. Members of the Scholarship Review Committee are not eligible to receive scholarships and may not write letters of recommendation for applicants. NSCA employees and their families are ineligible to receive financial awards.

Items judged by the NSCAF Review Committee in each application include:

  • Grades/GPA
  • Courses Completed
  • Overall Academic Achievement
  • Strength and Conditioning Experience
  • NSCA Involvement
  • Honors and Awards
  • Community Involvement
  • Essay that is based on clarity, expression, goals, lucidity, grammar, and articulateness 
  • Letters of Recommendation

Minority Scholarship

This scholarship is designed to encourage minorities, ages 17 and older, to enter into the field of strength and conditioning. Minority is defined as "ethnic minority," as determined by the U.S. Census Bureau. The applicant must be one of four ethnic qualifications: Black, Hispanic, Asian American, or Native American. Applicant must demonstrate they have been accepted into an accredited institution working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in the strength and conditioning field. $1,500 awards are available.

Specific Requirements: 

  1. Completed Application. 
  2. Current membership at time of application. 
  3. Is defined as a minority by the US Bureau of Census.  
  4. 3 letters of recommendation.
  5. Official transcripts from each school attended.
  6. Pursuant degree is in a strength and conditioning field.
  7. Applicant has not won this award twice previously.
  8. Is not a current member of the NSCA Foundation Board of Directors, Scholarship Review Committee, NSCA Board of Directors, NSCA Employee or employee's family member.

This scholarship is designed to support women, ages 17 and older, to enter into the field of strength and conditioning. Applicants must demonstrate they have been accepted into an accredited institution and are working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in the strength and conditioning field. $1,500 awards are available.

  6. Pursuant degree is in a strength and conditioning field.

Natasha Porter Memorial Scholarship

Natasha Porter was an employee of the NSCA who passed away in October of 2016 from a courageous battle with breast cancer. Natasha was the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director and was also responsible for the management of all the NSCA awards. Through her installation of responsibility and strong work ethic, she inspired those around her. This scholarship is designed for the specific purpose of providing financial assistance to Education Recognition Program (ERP) School Students to attend their first National Conference to network and engage with professionals in the industry. The scholarship has been established to honor Natasha’s legacy and impact on the NSCA. Scholarships will provide the cost of the conference admission, travel, daily meal stipend and boarding accommodations. All scholarship applicants must be NSCA Members at the application deadline (on or before October 15), have not yet attended any NSCA Conference in any capacity, and a current student of an ERP school that is in good standing with the NSCA. Members of the Board of Directors, Scholarship Review Committee, NSCA and NSCAF employees and their families are not eligible to receive scholarships and may not write letters of recommendation for applicants.

  3. Strength and Conditioning Experience

  6. Community Involvement
  7. Essay that is based on clarity, expression, goals, lucidity, grammar, and articulateness. Please answer the two essay questions below, a total of 750-1000 words each essay.

    • Describe how you have demonstrated leadership and inspiration to those around you.Letters of Recommendation

Challenge Scholarship

This scholarship is given to NSCA Members seeking either an undergraduate or graduate degree in a strength and conditioning-related field. Awards in the amount of $1,500 are granted and are to be applied toward tuition charges accrued by the student.

High School Scholarship

This program provides funding to high school seniors preparing to enter college. Students must demonstrate their acceptance into an accredited institution, their intention to graduate with a degree in the strength and conditioning field, their goals beyond college, and their track record of community service. $1,500 awards are available.

Specific Requirements: 

  1. Completed Application. 
  2. Current membership at time of application. 
  3. Current senior in high school. 
  4. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, based on a 4.0 system. 
  5. Submit an official high school transcript from each school attended. 
  6. Will be attending college in the fall following high school graduation. 
  7. Will major in a strength and conditioning field. 
  8. 3 letters of recommendation. 
  9. Signed NSCA Foundation High School Scholarship Parent/Legal Guardian Authorization Form (provided during application process). 
  10.  Is not a current member of the NSCA Foundation Board of Directors, Scholarship Review Committee, NSCA Board of Directors, NSCA Employee or employee's family member.

Jerry Martin Memorial Scholarship

Jerry Martin (1956 – 2015) was a lifelong strength and conditioning coach. Coach Martin was known by his students and colleagues as a hard-working, devoted strength and conditioning professional with a love for teaching and applying science of strength and conditioning. To honor his legacy, a fund was established in his name. Learn more about Coach Martin’s legacy.The Jerry Martin Scholarship is designed for the specific purpose of providing tuition assistance to students planning careers as strength coaches, and majoring in a related field.
