Juan Gonzalez is an Associate Professor within the Department of Health and Human Performance, College of Health Professions at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, TX. He is a former National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) women's cross country coach and has specialized in training the female athlete. He has authored the book "The Athlete Whisperer: What it Takes to Make Her Great." Gonzalez has presented on the thermal outdoor conditions at national events hosted by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Gonzalez is also heavily involved with mentoring pre-physical and occupational therapy students. Gonzalez is also very active in the running community with the uses of red and infrared light therapy. His line of research currently is on the effects of red and infrared light therapy in acute and chronic pain. Gonzalez is currently submitting for a multimillion-dollar grant from the Melinda Gates Foundation Action for Women's Health, called "Redlight Wellness: Women Embracing the Light."
