Darryn Willoughby holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology with sub-emphases in Nutritional Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Texas A&M University. He has post-doctoral training in Molecular Physiology and Immunology from the University of Southern Maine. He also possesses a graduate certificate in Clinical Anatomy from Hardin-Simmons University, School of Physical Therapy. Willoughby is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), International Society of Sport Nutrition (ISSN), American College of Nutrition (ACN), and American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP). He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), a Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN) through ISSN, and a Certified Exercise Physiologist (EPC) through ASEP. Dr. Willoughby is a Past President of the ISSN and has also been presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Society of Weight Training Injury Specialists. Currently, Willoughby is a Professor of Anatomy for Baylor College of Medicines School of Medicine and Director of the Anatomy Lab and Medial Director for Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, in Temple, TX. Willoughby is an Adjunct Professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology for the Master of Science in Physician Assistant (PA) Program, and a Professor of Exercise and Sport Science (EXSS) at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB). Willoughby is also an adjunct faculty member in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at UMHB, where he assists in helping teach Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy to the first-year PT students. Willoughby is a Professor Emeritus at Baylor University. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Kinesiology and Sport Science. He is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Nutrients, and Frontiers in Nutrition.
