How to Get Started

A strong start begins with the right foundation. For many coaches, that includes relevant education, professional certification, and hands-on experience.

Earn Your Education

A Bachelor’s degree* in a related field is the standard starting point. Master’s degrees are also common.

 

Get Certified

The NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) is often preferred or required by employers.

Gain Experience

Internships, field experience, and time in real training environments can help prepare for the job.

*Starting in 2030, U.S. candidates for the CSCS exam will need a bachelor’s degree from a CASCE-accredited program.
